Today, I was working with Deb Townsend on the gradebook. We were sucessful on two fronts, but not sucessful on two fronts. The difficulty lies in the fact that it is the District created Gradebook.
Deb had an issue with an assignment not deleting. This is a problem with the software. The nice thing is that since we wrote the program, we can fix it in house. However it is a problem because there are still bugs in the program. If we purchased our own program, there would be less bugs, but we could not solve them ourselves.
Her other issue was not knowing how to enter a dept key. I did not know it either. This is an issue since I am the school's lead gradebook guru, and I did not know.
But this leads to integrating tech into the classroom. To integrate new tech into the classroom teachers need two things. 1. They need to be exposed to the posibilities. 2. But then also they need the drive to do it. This was the case with the dept key. Hopefully we can get it figured out.

That's very powerful, Karl. The drive is, indeed, the key. I read a blog post from Steve Hargadon this morning that discusses much the same thing. (http://www.techlearning.com/blog/2008/03/web_20_is_the_future_of_educat_1.php)
Teachers often talk about all the content overload. Steve responds.. "..when people ask me the answer to content overload, I tell them (counter-intuitively) that it is to produce more content. Because it is in the act of our becoming a creator that our relationship with content changes, and we become more engaged and more capable at the same time. In a world of overwhelming content, we must swim with the current or tide."
Keep nudging, Karl, as I try to do. We need to keep the focus on those willing to swim. Others will see the benefits.
